My fixation on the cello playing stems from my fascination with basso continuo. It’s not that continuo part is extremely important in baroque music — of course it is — but what fascinates me most is how continuo playing can dictate the outcome of a whole performance.  The leader of the continuo group is like the quarterback of the offensive side of a football team; not only that he/she can drive the whole ensemble forward, but also that he/she can make the soloist(s) perform so much better, in the same way a good QB can make the offensive skill position players play lights-out. (Originally posted on April 4, 2010) A few hours ago my buddy Dave from Cincinnati called me with the news that Donovan McNabb just got traded to the Washington Redskins.  At 9:30 PM the Eagles head coach Andy Reid held a press conference to publicly announce the trade.  You’ve got to be kidding me. There are two different emotions going around in my mind.  One is about Donovan’s destination.  Why to the ‘Skins, one of the Eagles’ conference rival teams..!?!?!?  I really do understand the business side of this.  The Eagles truly wanted him to go to the place he preferred.  I bet the ‘Skins gave the best trade offer

Philadelphia

(Originally posted in February, 2010) My mobile phone’s area code is 215, and that’s a Philadelphia area code.  When I switched my mobile carrier from Verizon to AT&T, I was already an Indiana resident, and I was afraid they would force me to give it up.  But I found a way to retain my good old 215 number, and I’m happy about it.
