Sometimes people ask me why I’m so into Bach.\u00a0 They don\u2019t just ask me that when I first tell them I love Bach; they ask me after they realize, following some one-on-one chat with me, that I have made some sacrifices for Bach study, and that Bach literally changed my life.\u00a0 When they realize that my \u201cI love Bach\u201d is a bit different from your \u201cI love Beethoven (and such),\u201d they ask me why I\u2019m so obsessed with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.<\/p>\n
The reasons are manifold.\u00a0 And perhaps most of them are something we all share \u2014 the same reasons why you love Bach. \u00a0His music sounds cool? \u00a0Sure.\u00a0 Beautiful? Absolutely.\u00a0 Powerful? Indeed.\u00a0 Intellectually stimulating? Very much so.\u00a0 But ultimately, for me, the most appropriate adjective to describe his music is, simply, \u2018good.\u2019<\/p>\n
It is good music.\u00a0 Goodness is the essence of his music.\u00a0 His music is the truth, decency, humanity, integrity and love.\u00a0 His music can show me the way of life.\u00a0 His music embodies something metaphysical.\u00a0 His music appeal to my reason and to my emotion at the same time.\u00a0 To articulate this philosophically; Bach is the most effective trigger on getting to the next sphere… and perhaps I will elaborate on it here someday.<\/p>\n
Obviously, there are so much more to be said about Bach.\u00a0 I will revisit this theme with more thoughts and personal stories here in the future.\u00a0 I promise.<\/p>\n
